The Canyon Gorropu marks the natural border between the municipalities of Urzulei and Orgosolo, is about 1,5 km long, from the tip Cucuttos (888m), it sinks to about 500m. ; on the bottom it narrows until reaching, in some points, the minimum width of 4-5 m.
These characteristics of size and shapes, makes Gorropu a masterpiece of nature and at the sime time a precious treasure chest of biodiversity.

Easy hiking trail.
Starting in a off-road vehicle with guide from Gorropu Base Camp where you cross a panoramic dirt road for about 5km to reach Flumineddu river. Here you have to deal with an easy trekking of 2,5km to approach the Canyon. The site visit takes about one hour. For the return, in the afternoon, is the same way but backwards, reaching again Gorropu Base Camp.

Reaching Ghenna Silana passage. From this point you deal with a 2 hours hiking, 4 km long with a difference in level of about 650m. The route is very iteresting for the landscape, botanic (holms, arbutus, terebinth and monumental junipers), faunistic ( mouflon, marten, eagle) culture (historical pastoral settlement). The site visit takes about one hour. For the return you have to deal with an easy hiking 2,5 km long until you cross Flumineddu river; from that point, with a off-road vehicle, you cross a panoramic dirt road of about 5 km to reach Gorropu Base Camp (SS 125 km 190,500). here we can make a short stop and from the panoramic point you can wathc all the way that have been done while eating. For the return, allways with the croos-country vehicle , to Ghenna Silana passage.

Departure by off-road vehicle from Gorropu Base Camp (SS125 Km 190,500).
after a panoramic stretch of road on route 125, you enter in Supramonte of Urzulei to appreciate the limestone landscapes of Campu Oddeu and Campos Bàrgios. Then you reach the site of Sedda de as bacas and from there you have to deal with an easy hiking trail of about 3 km full of attraction such as: the monumental Yew (all parts of this plant are toxic to humans, with the ecception of the berries, however their seeds are toxic), and the tomb of th giants of Su campu de sa Càrcara, the sheepfold of Sa Sedda de as bacasa. Moving on S’Ischina de s’Arraiga until reaching Sa Giuntura and Pischina Gorropu, that marks the entrance to the mount of Gorropu’s Canyon. Here begins the most challenging path but spectacular, inside the Gorropu gorge (long about 1500meters) watching, amazed, the tremendous work done by the FLumineddu water , through the million years, to place, model and polish enormous limestone boulders, born there 190 or 60 million years ago under the level of the sea. The evidence of the marine origins, is the presence of the fossils like ammonites, algae, fish etc. In the inside you will also find millenary examples of Filirea latifolia and Yew, in addition to numerous endemic species of Sardinia, to confirm the unique microclimate of the canyon we can find the Columbine of Gorropu or Nuragic Columbine, two species of this flower that grows only inside the canyon
